In a society operating on the Gregorian calendar, the Jewish calendar can seem tough to pin down. Is Hanukkah in early December or late December? Or November!? Hard as it might be to believe, our calendar was once even less predictable. In this session we will be exploring the human dimension of the Jewish calendar, the role of witnesses in establishing the new month, and the religious crises that arose from this system.
